Review: Wreck This Journal

I'm back and today is number 3 of About's 20 Ideas For Writing A Blog Post. Today's idea is a review. I'm a very critical person so maybe I'll be good at this.

Review: Wreck This Journal
by Keri Smith

Wreck this journal is an interactive book and on every page it tells you to do something different to the book. The warning in the front of the book says: During the process of this book you will get dirty. You may find yourself covered in paint, or any other number of foreign substances. You will get wet. You may be asked to do things you question. You may grieve for the perfect state that you found the book in. You may begin to see creative destruction everywhere. You may begin to live more recklessly.

Since I have gotten this book, I have bought almost all of her other books. The pages definitely make me question myself.  When it told me to take it in the shower and the cover fell off, I was seriously worried the book was going to disintegrate before I was finished.

One of the first instructions was to crack the spine.  I was unsure, but I did as I was told.  Since this book, I've come to think slightly less about keeping books in pristine condition. Before I wouldn't even think about writing in a book or dog-earing a page. This doesn't mean I'm just going to start writing all over books or ripping them up. However, I might occasionally write in a corner or in the front.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. It makes you look at the world from a different angle. The pages tell you to do everything from chewing on the page to cutting up the pages to just ripping them out and playing golf with the crumpled paper. I really have enjoyed this book and will continue to, I'm not finished. I am sure after I'm done I will look at this destroyed book on my shelf as a fond memory and a great learning experience.

I would give it 7.5 astronauts out of 8.

I hope you think about getting this book because I love it.  I got back yesterday from my trip.  It was great, I saw a peacock and lots of little frogs that were the color of dried mud and about the size of a quarter. I picked one up it was super cute peeking out from between my fingers. We swam lots and ate at a lot of fancy cultural restaurants. Today's question to you is, where do you like to be the most in the world?
